A new free smartphone app, called Express Plus Child Support, will enable parents in Australia to have an easier time managing their child support payments. The app from the Department of Human Services will soon be available for Android devices as well.
Once registered, parents will be able to:
- track and make child support payments
- view child support correspondence
- update contact and bank information
- report changes in child support circumstances
- make changes to care arrangements
- report income changes
Ease of access to quality resources and support services via the smartphone app can make the difficult situation of divorce and child support much easier to navigate.
In 2013 the Australian Department of Human Services (DHS) began to see the benefits of moving to a self-managed services model. Their model was 69% more effective in enabling citizens to get the outcome they desired. Recent apps by the DHS include those giving access to Medicare services and Centrelink. Although in the U.S. there are currently private apps available for managing child support, such as supportpay, perhaps the federal government will develop a similar program based on the Australian model.
