As we reflect back on the prior year, we are very encouraged about the successful year of 2014 that we enjoyed.
Some of our successes were “legal ones.” We obtained some wonderful results for our clients. In January, we tried a very hard fought contested case in front of a jury in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County. The opposing attorney wanted $330,000.00 from our client. We felt he was not at fault. After a very challenging case, our client was vindicated; the jury found he was not at fault and a verdict was entered in a favor of our client. He was extremely pleased with the result.
We also had a case that travelled all the way to the Supreme Court of Maryland, Maryland’s Court of Appeals. We won that case in the trial court; and we were also successful in the next higher court, the Court of Special Appeals. Our opponent however decided to present the case to the Court of Appeals and there were extensive briefs filed by both sides. We conducted argument before the Court of Appeals, which was broadcast online. After some deliberation, the Court of Appeals issued its unanimous decision in the case of Thompkins v. Mountaineer Investments on June 23, 2014. It was a completely successful result for our client, Mountaineer. We won on every single point. Many of our results though are not published. We have negotiated many very favorable results for our clients who have been pleased with the outcome. However, because of the personal nature of their cases, the ultimate resolution is not for publication. We take great personal satisfaction in supporting our clients in their times of stress and difficulty; and assisting them in navigating to the outcome for which they were striving.
