My Divorce Lawyer Will Not Return My Calls: What Do I Do?

One of the frequent complaints clients make about their attorneys are that the attorneys do not return their calls as promptly as they should.  The divorce process is extremely emotional and stressful for the client.  There is often anxiety associated with a division of the marital assets, a separation of the family, and perhaps a relocation to a different residence.  A client often has very legitimate and serious concerns to be addressed.

There are very few good reasons why lawyers do not respond more promptly to client’s questions.  Certainly there are times when the attorney is tied up in court, on vacation, sick or otherwise truly unavailable.  However, there is nothing more important than providing excellent service to the client in need.  You are entitled to have your questions answered very promptly.  We owe that to you.

At Huesman, Jones and Miles, we pride ourselves on our prompt communication with clients.  Every call and email is answered within 24 hours.  Most are answered within the same business day.  We know and understand how important your case is to you.  We understand the stress and anxiety you may be experiencing.  We attempt to assure our clients that if they turn their file over to us, they can let us do the worrying for them.

You are entitled to have your attorney respond to you promptly.  If your attorney is not meeting your expectations, we would strongly suggest that you set up a time to meet with the attorney and communicate your legitimate concerns, and listen to his response.  There is substantial time and expense involved in switching attorneys, so that is not a decision to be taken lightly.  It is far better to attempt to communicate your expectations to your attorney and obtain his agreement to be more promptly responsive to you.  However, if you are still dissatisfied, and the attorney has had a full opportunity to communicate with you more promptly, than you may consider obtaining a different attorney.
